Attending a Board Meeting

The Board of Regents and University of Minnesota are strongly committed to full community participation at Board of Regents meetings. Board meetings are open to the public with the exception of a non-public agenda item or committee meeting in accordance with Minn. Stat. § 13D.01, Subd. 3 and 13D.05 Subd. 3(b)

A livestream of public Board meetings hosted in the boardroom is available at youtube.com/UMNRegents. Recordings of all public meetings are also archived on this channel.

Security Protocols

Protocols for all public Board of Regents meetings at the McNamara Alumni Center are designed with the safety of Regents, staff, and attendees at the forefront. Protocols are further informed by the University’s responsibilities related to policy, accessibility, and other safety and property requirements.

Beginning May 2025, all meeting attendees are required to go through security screening before being admitted. We encourage all visitors to allow ample time for the screening process.

  • Screening by the University’s Department of Public Safety will include metal detector wands and a bag search for prohibited items:
    • Firearms
    • Cutting tools or bladed instruments of any size
    • Electronic incapacitation devices, such as stun guns, tasers, etc.
    • Personal protection sprays such as chemical mace, pepper spray and any other protective chemical aerosol
    • Any other items that appear to be designed or used as weapons, and that are capable of inflicting serious bodily harm
  • Screening will be conducted in the McNamara Alumni Center lobby, and visitors should enter the building at the University Avenue entrance.

If room capacity becomes limited, those with business before the Board of Regents and members of the media will have priority over other attendees, pursuant to Article VI, Section F of the Board’s Bylaws

Media attending in person can contact University Public Relations at [email protected] for guidance.
